The tool assumes a still, swim-free stretch, because splash-out, backwashing, and a busy weekend of cannonballs all drop the water line without a leak being involved. Auto-fill hides loss entirely, so if yours is on, shut it off before you measure. When the result lands in the borderline or leak range, the side-by-side bucket test is the honest tiebreaker.
